🧴 BottleCore™ Irrigation – DIY Build Sheet
What is the BottleCore™?
The BottleCore™ is a vertical watering insert made from recycled plastic bottles. It sits at the center of a grow bag and delivers water evenly across the root zone, reducing evaporation and promoting deep, healthy root development.

💧 Why Use It?
- 🌿 Improves water distribution throughout the soil
- 🚱 Minimizes surface runoff and water waste
- ♻️ Built from recycled materials — zero cost
- 🔥 Ideal for hot or dry climates where water is precious
🧰 Materials Needed
- 2 to 3 standard plastic bottles (1–2 liters each)
- Sharp scissors or utility knife
- Heated nail or drill (to make holes)
- 🔧 Optional: bottle caps (to slow drainage)
🛠️ How to Build the BottleCore™
- Cut off the bottoms of 2–3 clean plastic bottles.
- Stack the bottles vertically, mouth-to-base, to form a continuous tube.
- Drill or poke small holes along the sides of each bottle (avoid the very bottom).
- Screw on the lowest bottle cap to slow flow — or leave slightly loose for faster drainage.
- Insert the BottleCore™ vertically into your grow bag before adding soil, keeping the top neck above soil level.
- To water, pour directly into the BottleCore™ — it distributes moisture deep through the root zone.
🌞 Best Practices
- ✅ Use in 15–20 gallon grow bags for ideal coverage
- 🌱 Fill with compost-rich, well-draining soil
- ☀️ Check water levels more often in hot weather
- 🧼 Clean each season to prevent algae or blockages
- 🧃 Consider using smaller bottles (1-liter or less) to conserve growing space
